Serving the Communities Where We Live
Deborah’s Place is a proud member of the community. We work throughout Chicago to educate our neighbors about our programs and the women we serve, and actively participate in the following organizations:
- Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy (CAPS) - Staff from Deborah’s Place attend monthly Beat Community Meetings at the local district stations in the 11th, 14th, 18th, and 19th districts to learn about events in the community and to voice concerns to police officers. These meetings can also be a good resource for learning about other community activities and events.
- Chicago Coalition for the Homeless (CCH) - CCH is founded on the belief that decent, humane housing is a human right in a just society. To that end, CCH is organized to research, create and implement programs to reverse the decline in low-income housing and to address and alleviate the problem of homelessness within metropolitan Chicago. To contribute to CCH’s goals and to share valuable information with other groups, we attend CCH meetings and participate in campaigns organized by CCH.
- Lakeview Action Coalition (LAC) - LAC is a multi-issue community organization made up of 34 institutions in Lakeview and North Center: religious congregations, social service agencies (including Deborah’s Place), banks and other organizations. The Coalition enables its members to act on their values in public life; LAC fulfills this mission by organizing around important issues by training and developing leaders. Staff and participants from Deborah’s Place attend LAC meetings and special events that the Coalition organizes.
- Alliance to End Homelessness is a consortium of more than 200 partners, including homeless service providers, advocacy groups, foundations, government agencies, and consumers, all of whom have come together to develop and implement a plan to end homelessness in Chicago by 2012.
- Supportive Housing Providers Association (SHPA) is a statewide association of non-profit organizations who provide supportive housing – affordable housing enriched with supportive services – to individuals and families who are homeless.
